SARAJEVO, October 30 (FENA) - The Office of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (OHR) sent a letter to the Government of the Sarajevo Canton today expressing support for the initiative of the Cantonal Ministry of Culture and Sports to resolve the status of seven cultural institutions of state importance, namely: the National Museum of BiH, the Historical Museum of BiH, the Museum of Literature of BiH, the Art Gallery of BiH, the Library for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons of BiH, the National and University Library of BiH and the Cinematheque of BiH.
“The Office of the High Representative welcomes the readiness of the Sarajevo Canton to offer interim solutions and to provide, on a temporary basis, funding and management in the seven mentioned cultural institutions, until the competent institutions at the state level make the decision necessary to regulate their future legal status,” it is stated in the letter signed by the High Representative Valentin Inzko, announced the Press Service of the Sarajevo Canton.
The statement reminds that the Minister of Culture and Sports of SC, Kenan Alikadić, has initiated a number of activities since the beginning of his mandate, aimed at resolving the status and financial problems of Bosnian cultural institutions.
“We made a series of analyzes to find the best sustainable model of assistance to these institutions, and we expressed our readiness to include it in the Canton budget. At this moment, we expect a statement from the cantonal and entity ministries at the request of the state Ministry of Civil Affairs. After that, the initiative of the Government of SC to temporarily take over the financing of these institutions will be considered by the Council of Ministers. This will also be the last step of very exhaustive and detailed activities that we have carried out during these six months,” explained Minister Alikadić.
He announced that the Ministry of Culture and Sports will plan funds for state cultural institutions in the amount of 2.7 million KM in the budget for 2021, it is stated in the announcement.
