SARAJEVO, October 28 (FENA) - The International Book Festival "Bookstan" opened tonight at Susan Sontag Square in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo with the promotion of the book "Sontag: Life and Work" by Benjamin Moser.
Over the next four days, more than 20 events are planned, and part of the program will be in a slightly different form than in previous years.
"It is a book about the life of a woman after whom this square was named. She was one of the great heroes of American and Bosnian culture who came here at the risk of her life to present the ideal of culture and civilization. It was not just Bosnian or European culture but it was something for the whole world. So that’s a big legacy. We are very happy to be able to present the book in Sarajevo in order to keep the story alive among people who do not know about Susan Sontag," Moser told FENA.
In a conversation with Boro Kontić, he presented his work to the audience of this year's "Bookstan" festival.
It is a book that brings a portrait of one of the greatest intellectuals of the modern world.
The director of the Festival and the publishing house "Buybook", Damir Uzunović, pointed out that Benjamin Moser received the Pulitzer Prize for this biography.
The Pulitzer Prize Committee for 2020, in the category of biographies, described the book with the words "An authoritatively constructed work told with pathos and grace, which, in addition to addiction, sexual dilemmas and volatile enthusiasm, records the genius and humanity of the writer."
"Susan Sontag is a truly famous person in Sarajevo, and she has a square that carries her name. The presence of this many people says that this is a big cultural event of 2020. We are overjoyed that with the promotion of the book "Sontag: Life and Work" we are opening the "Bookstan" festival which will last for the next four days," Uzunović told FENA.
The book was translated into Bosnian by Senada Kreso and published by 'Buybook'.
