TOMISLAVGRAD, October 25 (FENA) - The first phase of archeological excavations at the site of the hillfort on Mount Lib in Tomislavgrad Municipality has been completed, during which significant movable archeological material and samples of carbonized cereals from the prehistoric layer were collected.
It is a fort-type site and one of the most important and archeologically most potent sites from the cultural region, and it is justifiably located pre-Roman Delminium or center of power or conditionally said "capital" of the Delmatae tribal community.
Archaeological excavations involved the opening of test probes at several different locations of the archaeological site. They were aimed to determine the thickness, character and preservation of archaeological deposits and their mutual relations both in the cultural - chronological sense and in the sense of considering the use of the total spatial and organizational capacities of the site.
On that occasion, significant movable archeological material was collected, which mainly refers to everyday objects, of utilitarian purpose used by the population that gravitated to the fort in different periods of time.
Also, organic samples were collected from the appropriate archaeological deposits and will be sent for analysis.
The samples of carbonated cereals collected from the prehistoric layer are of particular interest, making them the oldest known cereals from the observed area.
Archaeological excavations were carried out at the initiative of the Association for Nature Protection and Environment "Kongora" and in cooperation with the Franciscan Museum Tomislavgrad and the Department of Archeology of the University of Mostar, while Stipan Dilber and Tino Tomas led the research, announced the Department of Archeology of the University of Mostar.
