HJPC BiH postpones the appointment of FBiH Chief Prosecutor

FENA Muamer Selimbegovic

SARAJEVO, October 23 (FENA) - The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) has extended the appointment of the Chief FBiH Prosecutor by 60 days, confirmed to FENA this regulatory body.

Although the agenda of the two-day session of the HJPC provided for the appointment of the Chief Prosecutor of the Federation of BiH, this did not happen, and the HJPC will, in the meantime, seek an interpretation from the FBiH Constitutional Court and the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

In the ranking list for the Chief FBiH Prosecutor, Munib Halilović, Dubravko Čampara and Saša Sarajlić were shortlisted as the most successful candidates.

Given that this is a leading position, the appointment must, among other things, take into account the representation of the constituent peoples and others, in the context of the distribution of key positions in the FBiH.

According to the Constitution of the Federation of BiH, out of six positions (Prime Minister, Chairman of the House of Representatives and House of Peoples of FBiH, President of the Supreme Court of FBiH, President of the Constitutional Court of FBiH and Chief Prosecutor), a maximum of two can be filled by representatives of one constituent people.

The position of the FBiH Chief Prosecutor remained vacant after the retirement of former Chief Prosecutor Zdravko Knežević in early November 2018, when his first deputy Tihomir Jurko was appointed acting Chief Prosecutor of the FBiH Prosecutor's Office.
