SARAJEVO, October 18 (FENA) - On Saturday, 50 volunteers planted 1,000 white pine seedlings on Mount Bjelašnica as part of an afforestation campaign titled "Let's Do It - a million seedlings in 1 day".
"With this campaign, despite the difficult and unusual conditions, we once again wanted to point out the multi-layered importance of forests for humans.
They give us the oxygen necessary for life! Trees are used as one of the most common raw materials in production. Forests protect us best from landslides, they are home to many animals, and there are many other reasons why we must preserve our forests and try to plant one or more new ones after we cut down a tree," says the LDI team.
The planting campaign was supported by the golden sponsor 'Eko život' and partners Mistral, ProCredit Bank, Coca Cola BiH and the public enterprise 'Sarajevo Forests'.
The planting of white pine on Mt Bjelašnica was part of the Eco challenge "Let's make our country even more beautiful", which the citizens' association 'Ruke' is implementing in cooperation with the United States Embassy in BiH.
