SARAJEVO, October 2 (FENA) - So far, 160,383 samples have been tested in the Federation of BiH, and a total of 18,189 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed, which makes an incidence of 830 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, said a member of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health and Head of the Epidemiology Service of the FBiH Public Health Institute Sanjin Musa.

As of October 2, according to him, 536 people have died as a result of the disease, which is a mortality rate of 24.5 cases per one hundred thousand inhabitants.

"According to the data received by October 2, the daily average in the last seven-day period is 130 cases per day and we note that this number is actually lower, i.e., that the seven-day incidence is lower compared to the previous reporting period. The seven-day incidence per one hundred thousand inhabitants is 40.9 cases, which means that 895 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the FBiH in the last seven days," explained Musa.

They analyzed age groups and the structure of the disease in September, taking into account that it was the beginning of the school year, looking also at the share of preschool and school children in the total number of cases.

"We are coming into a season when it is very important to adhere to preventive measures that we have been promoting intensively for the last seven months, physical distancing, wearing masks, hand disinfection and, more importantly, limiting contact in environments where transmission is most likely to happen and these are closed, poorly ventilated areas," added Musa.

Experience shows that when the number of cases increases, it occurs among the younger population, but later there is a danger that it will spread across other age groups.

"Although the virus is constantly changing, we cannot say that its transmission has been reduced or the severity of the disease it causes," Musa said.

Musa added that seasonal flu vaccines could be available in the Federation of BiH by November, that the Institute of Public Health and cantonal institutes have conducted tender procedures and that the delivery of vaccines from suppliers is expected.

"In the territory of the Federation of BiH, we expect the procurement of about 50,000 doses of the flu vaccine. The procurement of the influenza vaccine in the Federation of BiH is decentralized, so cantonal health insurance funds also participate in it.

This year, the Institute of Public Health is participating with a program intended for the vaccination of health workers, where an additional 10,000 doses have been ordered. We are in regular contact with suppliers and we have information that we will receive it in November. Last year, the vaccine was distributed in the first week of November," noted Musa.
