SARAJEVO, September 28 (FENA) – The Social Democratic Party MP in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Saša Magazinović said at a roundtable in Sarajevo on the topic "Stop the conflict of interest" that he is not sure whether the proposed law on conflict of interest will be supported in the House of Peoples, given that HDZ and SNSD voted against it in the House of Representatives.

"This is not the law of Magazinović, Jasmin Emrić and Damir Arnaut who are the proponents of the law, but the law on which all political parties worked and was taken over from the last mandate. It was signed by eight deputies then, and we are now signing it because we have remained in office. This law passed the first reading in the House of Representatives and I hope it will pass in the second reading as well. I am not sure how it will go in the House of Peoples," Magazinović added.

The law was drafted in cooperation with Transparency International, the OSCE and the EU Delegation to BiH.

"This legislative procedure has lasted for more than three years. This is an important systemic law that should improve and regulate the system of conflicts of interest, and we have not yet implemented the recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO)," said A-SDA MP in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Jasmin Emrić.

The Law on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest is currently in force, implemented by a Commission consisting of members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. Therefore, according to MPs, there is a lack of confidence in the conduct of proceedings in advance, and GRECO recommended that the Law Enforcement Commission be independent and composed of experts who have no direct connection with politics.

The roundtable, organized by the Forum of the Left Initiative, was attended by members of the FBiH Parliament and the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, because the intention is for the proposed law on conflict of interest to be harmonized at both Federation and cantonal levels.
