BiH and Serbia sign agreement on the construction of border crossing in Bratunac

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 18 (FENA) - Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vojin Mitrović and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlović signed today the Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia on the construction of a joint border crossing Bratunac and the Agreement on maintenance and reconstruction of interstate bridges.

By signing the agreement on the maintenance of bridges, the two countries defined that BiH should take care of five bridges, three on the Sava and two on Uvac River, while Serbia is to maintains six bridges on the Drina River.

Funds for the maintenance of bridges are provided by the Council of Ministers of BiH from the state budget for the next year and amount to 850,000 KM, meaning that for the next five years, Bosnia and Herzegovina will allocate 4.5 million KM for this purpose.

"The signing of these agreements is an important moment for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Namely, the 'Bratoljub' bridge was completed in 2017, but we waited until December 2019, in order to harmonize the political positions of the three peoples and overcome the incompetence of the then representatives of the Serb people in the BiH CoM to provide additional funds for the construction of the Bratunac border crossing in the amount of 3.5 million KM, which the new convocation of the CoM did at its first session," said Mitrović.

Also, the agreement, as Serbian Minister Mihajlović pointed out, enables the beginning of maintenance of other interstate bridges, for which Serbia has already earmarked 15 million euros in the next three years.
