Dodik: RS National Assembly will have a final say on the recognition of Kosovo

SARAJEVO, September 17 (FENA) - The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina held three sessions today, one regular and two extraordinary ones, at which they discussed a number of issues of interest to BiH, its entities, and peoples.

After the session at the press conference in East Sarajevo, a member of the Presidency Milorad Dodik said that he talked with the other two members, Džaferović and Komšić, about the coronavirus pandemic, vaccine procurement, migrant crisis, realization of conclusions from the last session, including inauguration into service of 340 cadets, in order to increase the efficiency of the border control, as well as the fight against human trafficking.

"At the extraordinary session, we discussed my request to pass a decision of the Presidency to move the BiH Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I think this is important because it is proof of friendship towards an obviously friendly country towards BiH, and above all towards Serbs. I believe that the efforts of the Jewish people and Israel to define their right to determine their capital and for others to respect that should be supported.

Džaferović and Komšić voted against, I voted for that decision, so that decision was rejected. We shall see how this matter evolves further. In any case, we should remain committed to good relations with Israel as a whole," said Dodik.

He stated that the next item on the agenda was the initiative to recognize Kosovo as an independent country. Željko Komšić, as a member of the Presidency in accordance with his rights, raised this issue.

"Komšić explained that the will of the people in Kosovo should be respected, that this is the position they have already decided on, that it is a factual situation, etc. In the final vote, Džaferović and Komšić voted for the decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent country, and I voted against.

The further procedure is that at the next regular session, that item will be obligatorily put and it will be decided upon, but even that is not the final say on this decision. The final say will be in the RS National Assembly. I believe that the epilogue is that Kosovo will not be recognized. Kosovo cannot be recognized, since the RS believes that Kosovo does not deserve to be an independent country," said Dodik.

He stated that his visit to Zagreb yesterday "does not go beyond our interests".

"I arranged a meeting with President Zoran Milanović. We wanted to discuss the current situation, political issues that are important for both countries. I thought it was a good opportunity to inform the Croatian leadership with the current situation in BiH. There was an opportunity to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Plenković.

We talked about political issues, about our economic cooperation, infrastructure projects, about bridges and their maintenance, re-categorization of bridges. In the conversation with the President and the Prime Minister, we concluded that our communication should take place as much as possible," said Dodik.

He states that one of the topics was the issue of opening a nuclear waste disposal site at Trgovska gora, and that he raised this issue back in March 2019.

"Even back then, we asked Croatia to give up on this decision. We asked the BiH authorities to act accordingly, if necessary through international justice institutions. Of course, I can't handle this alone. This is an issue within the competences of the sovereignty of Croatia and what we can do, and I have done it, is to discuss this topic and try to persuade the authorities of Croatia to change their mind," said Dodik.

He stated that "the unacceptable practice of Bosniak representatives in the institutions of the BiH Council of Ministers and other levels of the government continues and they are behaving very autonomously and irresponsibly towards BiH, violating procedures and regulations."

He said that this also applies to BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turković, "who joined and supported the EU's policy towards Belarus without seeking the consent of the BiH Presidency."
