SARAJEVO, September 17 (FENA) - Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vojin Mitrović met in Sarajevo with Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community in Belgrade Matej Zakonjšek.

As Minister Mitrović pointed out, the Transport Community is an extremely important regional partner for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the already signed Transport Community Agreement speaks in favor of that.

“Development and connection of the surrounding countries and the Western Balkans mean a better life for the citizens, but also a better position of our country on the path to European integration. Also, construction and safety of roads, as well as investment in railway transport, removal of non-physical barriers for more efficient and faster border crossing, are priorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Transport Community. All this will contribute to a better connection of the region, which is of great importance if we want to develop and for our economies to move forward,” Mitrović emphasized.

The interlocutors agreed that investing in railway transport will directly affect the economic development of the countries in the region.

“We in the Transport Community are looking forward to the continuation of good cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will continue to support the implementation of infrastructure projects in order to better connect the countries of the region with the European Union (EU). Political will exists in the EU, so we expect concrete results from the ministerial meeting on October 26 and the Western Balkans-EU summit in November. Today's meeting is an opportunity to discuss common priorities, which are the modernization of roads and improving road safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the establishment and development of rail transport in order to improve trade in the region, which will directly affect economic development. Investments in Corridor Vc and the bridges Svilaj and Gradiška are of special importance,” said Zakonjšek.

After the meeting, he told reporters that his visit was taking place at a time of new relations between the European Union and the Western Balkans, and announced that the European Commission would announce an action plan in a few weeks to better connect the region and the European Union.

Asked why the construction of Corridor Vc is progressing slowly, Mitrović answered that one of the problems is the division into several subsections, with an extremely demanding construction route.
