Compromise related to the EU as guiding principle of political relations in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 11 (FENA) - Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nikola Lovrinović and Secretary-General of the European Movement in BiH Haris Plakalo talked today after the session of that committee.

The interlocutors stated the need for a stronger approach to the EU integration processes, and pointed out that compromise related to EU integration and reforms must be the guiding principle of political relations in BiH, the European Movement in BiH stated.

“Today we had a session of the Committee and I informed the Secretary-General of the European Movement in BiH about the conclusions adopted at that session, among other things and the request that members of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the BiH Parliament expect the BiH Council of Ministers to forward the drafting laws and other acts whose adoption would enable Bosnia and Herzegovina to submit a credible application for candidate status for membership in the European Union. I reiterated that the process related to EU integration is ‘the connective tissue’ of all political relations in BiH, or at least it should be,” Lovrinović pointed out.

The Secretary-General of the European Movement in BiH, Haris Plakalo, emphasized the importance of the role that the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH has, and pointed out that the committee has had important activities so far.

“I am glad that Mr. Lovrinović is also chairing this composition, considering that we had a very successful cooperation during the previous convocation. I believe that this committee, precisely because it consists of persons elected by BiH citizens, members of both houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, is important as a body that will be an unavoidable factor in EU integration processes, because with its work and recommendations and decisions it surely is. I consider especially important the request of the committee that was sent to the Council of Ministers today after the session, in terms of preparing the bill and all other acts needed to finally get candidate status,” said Plakalo.
