Džaferović: Meeting with a strategic partner

FENA Almir Razić

SARAJEVO, September 9 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović described today's meeting of Presidency members with US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer as a "useful meeting with our friends, with a strategic partner".

"We have received support and an appeal for everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina to be more committed to the reform path, to face the future so that this country can be built as soon as possible as an efficient, functional, stable, secure state, economically prosperous, ensuring that the citizens of this country, especially young people, look for their future here in BiH, and not outside BiH," Džaferović told reporters.

One of the specific issues was marking the 25th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement. Džaferović announced that all three members of the Presidency would be committed to the process and would work together to mark this anniversary and project the future of BiH "precisely on this track, as I said, of peaceful, stable, prosperous, economically developed country."

Another issue discussed is the fight against human trafficking. Džaferović warned that BiH is in danger to go downhill when it comes to this topic.

“We will urge that BiH does the best it can in the fight against human trafficking, which is needed both for the country itself but also for its position on that scale, not to lose assistance,” he said.

The third topic mentioned is the issue of BiH's participation in military exercises with its allies, NATO and EUFOR.

Džaferović reminds that the Presidency of BiH has played a significant role in that and will continue to plan exercises as it was this year.

“That is something that we have already accepted as an obligation in the plan of reforms submitted by the NATO alliance, modernization of the armed forces of BiH,” he stated.

The fourth issue that was mentioned and which is very important is the issue of the relation between the dialogue process between Serbia and Kosovo, i.e. Belgrade and Pristina, and the relation with other countries in the region.

“It is clearly stated that this process has nothing to do with any country in the region and that it concerns only Belgrade and Pristina. It is something that we knew from before and that I was talking about all the time, and today we heard it from representatives of the American administration at this meeting,” said Džaferović.
