Turković: Extra effort must be made to protect the rights of Montenegro citizens

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 2 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković spoke by phone today with Srđan Darmanović, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro.

Minister Darmanović informed Minister Turković about the current situation in Montenegro, after the parliamentary elections in this country.

Minister Turković expressed concern over the situation in this country, especially in the town of Pljevlja, where incidents, provocations and attacks happened in the past few days, and asked for additional efforts to protect the rights of citizens and their property.

"We are appalled with the statements mentioning Pljevlja in the context of the genocide in Srebrenica. We condemn such rhetoric, which is backward, uncivilized, and has no place in the 21st century.

We ask people to protect themselves because no one should be attacked because of their ethnic background or political affiliation.

I believe that such phenomena can seriously jeopardize the security of the entire region. Too much energy and time have been invested in the past decades for us today to tolerate radical nationalist actions, which threaten to endanger peace in the region," said BiH Foreign Minister Turković.
