Security Minister on measures for efficient management of illegal migration

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 1 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selmo Cikotić held a working meeting in Sarajevo yesterday, and discussed measures for more efficient management of illegal migration, providing adequate accommodation for migrants, but also improving security and other living conditions for local population.

In addition to the representatives of the Ministry of Security of BiH, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the BiH Service for Foreigners’ Affiars attended the meeting.

Given that the Una-Sana Canton (USC) and the City of Bihać are most affected by the migrant crisis, the USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić, USC Police Commissioner Mujo Koričić and Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić also attended the meeting.

The focus was on finding a solution to control the movement and stay of migrants during the upcoming winter, the BiH Ministry of Security stated.

The officials made concrete conclusions related to the implementation of the conclusions of the Presidency of BiH on the relocation of migrants outside populated and urban areas in specially built facilities.

“With the provision of adequate conditions for the accommodation of migrants and better control of their movement, the security conditions for the local population will be improved and the pressure of migrants on the municipalities in the western part of BiH will be reduced,” it is said in the statement.
