SARAJEVO, August 31 (FENA) - Police officers of the Zvornik Border Police Unit and members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), who were engaged in assisting the BiH Border Police in border control, prevented the smuggling of ten people of Afro-Asian descent in the Zvornik area on August 29 from the Republic of Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The persons being smuggled were five men, four women and a baby. Illegal migrants were smuggled by boat over the Drina River. They were smuggled by an Afghan citizen who was driving the boat. Illegal migrants did not have identification documents and said they came from Afghanistan.
According to the order of the Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of "smuggling of persons", the Afghan citizen was arrested and handed over to the acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH. Members of the Service for Foreigners Affairs of BiH were also informed about the incident and will continue further work on the issue of smuggling of migrants int BiH, stated the BiH Border Police.
