Ministry of Security: New shift in control and readmission of illegal migrants

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 27 (FENA) - The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has made a new step forward in the control and possible readmission of illegal migrants residing in BiH to their countries of origin, the Ministry said.

Given that the largest number of migrants in BiH come from Pakistan, Minister of Security Selmo Cikotić, during the first meetings after taking office, met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to BiH Muhammad Khalid Rao.

On that occasion, the officials pointed out the importance of signing the Readmission Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Pakistan, which was launched in 2010.

Subsequently, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the BiH Ministry of Security that the Government in Islamabad had expressed understanding and readiness to sign this important agreement for BiH.

“This first positive response came as a result of the new approach of the BiH Ministry of Security, to solve the problems of the migrant crisis through the use of international mechanisms and strengthening partnerships with countries that are a source of migration,” it is said in a statement.

In this way, legal and practical preconditions are created for readmission, i.e. the return of migrants from Pakistan who are staying illegally in BiH.
