SARAJEVO, August 26 (FENA) - The Provisional Commission of Inquiry of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament for determining the situation in BiH judicial institutions concluded at today's session in Sarajevo that it will request from the Court and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH for precise statistics on how many criminal charges did not result in indictment or closure of the investigation even two years after filing, as well as how many trials are there at the level of BiH at the moment in which the first instance verdict has not been pronounced even after two years.
Commission Chairman Damir Arnaut told reporters after the session that it is unacceptable that processes in a democratic system take too long and that is why they focused on a period of two years.
He added that the Commission decided to call the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, Gordana Tadić, to testify, and several inquiries were sent to her office, but they were not able to get an answer.
“As for other witnesses, we have excellent cooperation, and all delays or cancellations so far have been for objective reasons, and a large number of witnesses have been heard,” said Arnaut.
He explained that according to its work plan, the Commission should complete all hearings and review of documentation by December and prepare concrete acts, including legal proposals by June 2021.
“Taking into account our work so far, we are on a good path to achieve this, perhaps even earlier than expected,” Arnaut emphasized.
He announced that the Commission will hear media representatives at one of the next sessions to see what problems they face because he believes that the media in BiH may be the main tool for detecting some corruption and all changes in laws should go in the direction of making it easier for them to work.
