SARAJEVO, August 25 (FENA) - French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Guillaume Rousson, Minister of Education of the Sarajevo Canton Anis Krivić and Principal of Sarajevo's Grammar School "Gimnazija Obala" Benjamin Hedžić signed an agreement today to formalize the bilingual program at the beginning of this school year and welcomed the third generation of students enrolled in the bilingual Francophone class.
Ambassador Rousson stated that French is the fifth most used language in the world with 300 million speakers and after English, the second most learned in the world.
"I would like to congratulate the Principal on the success of this project in this school. The dynamism of students and professors has enabled the valorization of bilingual teaching and the number of enrolled in the second generation has doubled compared to the first,” said Rousson.
Minister Krivić stated that French language is present in Sarajevo, but that he personally is still not satisfied with the number of students who attend classes in French, and there are about 600 of them in the Sarajevo Canton.
He added that he hopes that the future activities he will carry out with the Embassy of France and schools will lead to massive involvement of students in French classes.
Principal of the Gimnazija Obala, Benjamin Hedžić, pointed out that students in bilingual classes have acquired high language competencies and the vast majority has reached C1 level, which is a great success.
The program of the bilingual Francophone class combines a thorough study of French and study of one or more subjects in French, harmonized with the official curriculum of the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton and agreed with the school administration and the French Embassy.
