SARAJEVO, August 21 (FENA) - At the next session of the Government of the Federation of BiH, FBiH Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Djapo will request that the FBiH Government officially address the BiH Council of Ministers and request urgent reopening of borders for Turkey, USA and countries in the East.
Although Minister Djapo has requested from the Council of Ministers of BiH a long time ago to make a decision on reopening the borders for citizens of Turkey, the USA and countries of the East, this has not happened yet without any explanation.
“On the other hand, Turkey, as a state, has completely reopened its borders to the citizens of BiH and they can enter without any administrative barriers. Also, it is important to point out that Turkey has the lowest number of people infected with the COVID-19 virus, so looking at the statistics, it is completely unclear why that country is on the blacklist of BiH. We can learn a lot from Turkey about how to use a scanner to control tourists at airports on arrival, so it is almost impossible for an infected person to come to you. Anyone who has a fever is discreetly called and tested. We can do the same at our airports,” said Djapo.
After reopening of borders, the Council of Ministers of BiH should prescribe the conditions for entering BiH in a sense that guests submit a negative test for coronavirus or some other way.
Also, direct flights have been reestablished, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked BiH authorities to reopen BiH's borders for Turkish citizens.
“The tourist season has been saved in Neum, our only town on the coast, thanks to local guests. But this is not the case in other parts of BiH that predominantly live from tourism, Sarajevo, Mostar Jajce, Bihać, Travnik. These cities are deserted, when it comes to tourists, so the arrival of guests from the East would significantly save the season. The caterers will not be able to sustain themselves financially this year if the borders are not reopened,” Djapo emphasized.
