SARAJEVO, August 17 (FENA) - Secretary-General of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Halid Genjac handed over the list of candidates to the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina on behalf of that party today ahead of the upcoming local elections scheduled for November 15.

He confirmed to reporters that the party had nominated candidates for 66 municipal and city councils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 39 municipal and city assemblies in Republika Srpska, and a list for the Brčko District.

“There are 58 mayors from the SDA, in Sapna, in addition to the SDA, the coalition candidate is also supported by the Party for BiH. In Srebrenica, the SDA candidate is supported by certain parties and it is a joint candidate. There is an independent candidate in Stolac who is also supported by SDA. This is the case in Velika Kladuša, Gradačac and Novi Travnik, i.e. a joint candidate supported by the SDA,” Genjac explained.

SDA will run in the coalition in the upcoming elections in the local units of Srebrenica, Bijeljina, Zvornik, Banja Luka, Doboj, Kotor Varoš, Čajnice, Bratunac and Novo Goražde.

There are a total of 2,868 candidates on the lists in BiH, of which 2,218 are in the Federation of BiH and 650 in the Republika Srpska. Also, Genjac confirmed that there are 1,147 women or 40 percent on the lists, 860 young candidates, and on 10 lists the women are leaders and two are candidates for mayors, for the municipalities of Donji Vakuf and Vareš.

Speaking about the expectations in the elections, he said that SDA had good results in the last elections and a significant number of mayors, which they expect this time with two or three more majors, and when it comes to Sarajevo, they expect to keep the municipalities led by SDA for the past four years.

When asked by journalists how they decided to form a coalition with some parties in some local communities, Genjac said only briefly that the only eternal principle in politics is political interest.
