BIHAĆ, August 11 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selmo Cikotić met with Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton Mustafa Ružnić and Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić during his visit to Una-Sana Canton (USC) today, and visited some of the reception centers in this part of the country. He announced numerous activities in order to make the plan for managing the migrant crisis in BiH more concrete, efficient and usable.

“This plan contains seven priorities, 21 measures and 116 activities. We have agreed on certain mechanisms for more direct and concrete coordination of cooperation between local and cantonal authorities with the competent state institutions for migration. Through the first measure, we will try to strengthen the capacity and ability of the Border Police, i.e. to improve the control of the eastern border. We will insist on better cooperation of all police agencies in the country, we will try to strengthen financial support through domestic and international funds. We will review the activities and responsibilities of certain institutions in charge of border control, dealing with foreigners and asylum issues. We will simply try to share the burden of the migrant crisis on the whole of BiH and enable the citizens of the USC to feel safer in their homes,” said Minister Cikotić after today's meetings in Bihać.

Cantonal and local political officials have expressed frustration with a number of promises made so far, which have not even been attempted on the ground. They hope that Minister Cikotić will take on the role of a leader in the process of controlling the movement and stay of migrants, especially in the area of Bihać and Velika Kladuša.

“We are tired and frustrated because of numerous promises and arrivals, after which absolutely nothing has been done. We are glad that the first official visit of Minister Cikotić was actually a visit to our canton, that is how it had to be, because the security situation is deteriorated only here in our canton. We want someone to finally help us relocate several thousand migrants from our streets and public areas. We have invested more than half a million KM for the reception center at the Lipa site for that very reason, and now someone is convincing us that there can only be 1,000 people at that location. We need concrete moves by the state, in order to stop being victims and hostages of certain international organizations, which solve only their partial interests,” said Mayor of Bihać, Šuhret Fazlić.

BiH Minister of Security Selmo Cikotić reiterated that he visited the Una-Sana Canton to get more detailed information of the situation on the ground and the elaboration of a more efficient plan for managing the migrant crisis, which should then be defined and implemented very soon.

Currently, almost 8.000 migrants reside in the Una-Sana Canton, and more than half of these people are on the streets, public areas and in abandoned buildings in Bihać, Velika Kladuša and Cazin.
