Salkić: It is not realistic to build a peace monument in Srebrenica

BANJA LUKA, August 9 (FENA) - Considering the fact that Bosnian Serb representatives, as well as those from Serbia, did not experience catharsis, did not distance themselves from various criminals and their crimes, did not show empathy for victims, nor did they accept relevant court verdicts, it is not realistic to build a peace monument in Srebrenica, stated Vice President of the RS entity, Ramiz Salkić.

He said that it is hard to believe that intentions of the proponents of building the monument are sincere only if genocide deniers wholeheartedly support it and if it is supported by those who consider convicted war criminals heroes and creators of what is now called the RS entity.

“Building such a monument obviously aims to equalize, relativize and divert attention from the committed, proven and judged genocide,” said Salkić for FENA.

Srebrenica peace monument would make sense if Bosnian Serb representatives in Srebrenica, but also in Banja Luka, experienced catharsis, distanced themselves from war criminals, accepted court rulings and proven fact that the Army of Republika Srpska and police units committed genocide against Bosniak Muslims in the UN safe area of Srebrenica.

“The fact that the entire then political and military leadership of the Republika Srpska was convicted of serious war crimes, a joint criminal enterprise and genocide, and that today they are considered heroes and creators in this entity, and not destroyers and criminals, speaks enough.

“As the catharsis has not happened yet, the reaction of the families of genocide victims and their opposition to building a peace monument in Srebrenica, i.e. the monument of relativization of genocide against Bosniak Muslims in the UN safe area Srebrenica, is quite logical,” RS Vice President pointed out.

Due to all these facts, Salkić pointed out, the attitude of the families of victims of genocide deserves every attention and support until those who deny the genocide experience catharsis.
