Preliminary list of beneficiaries for EU grants published

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 7 (FENA) - Preliminary list of beneficiaries who have met the criteria for public call for grants through European Union (EU) projects, aimed at mitigating the negative impact of COVID-19 on the agri-food sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been published on Thursday.

The public call, which was open from May 18 to June 8, 2020, received a total of 93 applications, 29 of which met the prescribed conditions.

The total value of 29 reported investments is 5.7 million KM and they are supported with 3.7 million KM within the projects of the European Union EU4Business and EU4Agri.

EU4Business supported 15 investments with 1.9 million KM.

Given the increased needs of the sector and larger number of applications that are eligible for funding, EU4Agri also supported the remaining 14 investments with 1.8 million KM.

The applicants may file a complaint on the results of the preliminary list. The deadline for filing a complaint is 13 August 2020, the UNDP announced.

UNDP stated that the goal of public call is to mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the optimization of operating costs, maintaining productivity, liquidity and competitiveness of the agri-food sector in BiH; stabilizing existing value chains, and promoting sustainable agricultural production including better management of natural resources, environmental protection and human protection.

EU4Business is a European Union project that seeks to strengthen the capacity for economic growth and employment in BiH by improving competitiveness and innovation in selected sectors.

EU4Business is worth 16.1 million euros, of which 15 million euros are financed by the EU, and 1.1 million euros by the Federal Republic of Germany. The project is jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), UNDP in BiH and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

EU4Business is part of the Program of Local Development Strategies - Local Self-Government and Economic Development in BiH implemented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Republic of Germany (BMZ).

EU4Agri is a four-year (2020-2024) project aimed at modernizing the agri-food sector and stimulating rural economy in BiH.

EU4Agri is worth 20.25 million euros and is funded by the EU with 20 million euros, and co-financed with 250,000 euros and implemented by UNDP and the Czech Development Agency (CzDA).

The project also supports policy improvement through a range of activities, including strengthening institutional capacity and services, as well as improvements in public policies and the regulatory framework, the UNDP stated.
