TUZLA, July 20 (FENA) - A donation from the European Union worth 373,000 KM in the fight against coronavirus was presented today to the University Clinical Center in Tuzla. The donation consists of four ventilators, two ultrasound devices, and one DNA extractor.

It is important to note that one of the two ultrasound machines will be in the gynecology department where the pregnant women are stationed, as a very sensitive population, and the other device will be installed in the COVID clinic.

“This is part of a general assistance that the European Union provides throughout the country. We know that there are many needs, and this is only part of our continuous assistance to BiH in meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis.

We have so far invested 7 million euros in assistance to BiH by securing medical equipment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It should not be forgotten that, in addition to health care assistance, we also provide assistance to the BiH economy due to major recovery problems. The EU has so far provided 73 million euros in assistance of saving jobs. We will provide another 250 million in aid for general macroeconomic assistance and recovery,” Nicolas Bizel from the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina pointed out today in Tuzla.

Managing director of the University Clinical Center (UCC) Tuzla, Vahid Jusufović, pointed out that these valuable devices will make the work easier for doctors and that many of them are already on the fatigue breaking point.

“All this will contribute to the speeding up the process of PCR testing, and we have lacked that from the very beginning. Everything we have received so far as a donation from the EU was really very high quality, so we owe them a great deal of gratitude,” says Jusufović.

He pointed out that for now, the COVID hospital of the University Medical Center Tuzla has been expanded to 110 beds, and a new COVID hospital is ready, at another location, if there is a sudden increase in infected or hospitalized patients.

“I emphasize once again, our biggest problem is the fatigue of the medical staff. All employees of the UCC Tuzla are participating in this process. If there was no help from the EU, we would rely on those capacities that we had at the beginning of March. This would mean that it would be much harder to fight this virus. This equipment, which came from the EU and UNDP, is really of high quality. What we got is really valuable and all these devices will not stand in the hallways, but will be used in clinical practice,” director Jusufović told FENA.
