Failure to adopt state budget is just one of planned scenarios

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 13 (FENA) - Coalition of SDA, SNSD and HDZ mentions the possibility of additional postponement of local elections. Failure to adopt the state budget is just one of the planned scenarios.

President of the Social Democratic Party of BiH Nermin Nikšić, President of Our Party Predrag Kojović, President of the People and Justice Elmedin Konaković, President of the Platform for Progress Mirsad Hadžikadić, President of the Croatian Party Božo Skopljaković and President of the Independent Bloc Senad Šepić held an online meeting today and discussed the current situation in BiH.

“Attempt of the ruling parties to put democracy in quarantine and thus suspend the right of citizens to vote and be elected is something that will not be tolerated by either opposition parties or citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, in this way, we want to say very clearly how crucial it is to provide funds for local elections this year,” it was announced after the meeting.

It is completely unacceptable for the opposition parties that HDZ and SNSD, due to the situation in which they evidently lost control over the Central Election Commission of BiH, condition and hold the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina hostage by disputing the adoption of the budget.

“We will not sit idly and wait for the SDA, SNSD and HDZ to hide behind their alleged agreements, which are not valid even 24 hours after the triumphant proclamation, looking for justification on how not to hold the elections. We, in SDP, NS, NIP, Platform for Progress, NBL, HS and NB, are firmly committed to using all democratic means to prevent the intention of the ruling parties to prevent holding of local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” it is said in the statement.

The opposition is unanimous in its intention not to allow the ruling party to use the pandemic and alleged health concerns to prevent opposition from clearly articulating citizen discontent, including organizing peaceful protests in cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, they emphasize the determination that the united protests of the opposition be organized in compliance with all recommended protection measures and legal regulations.
