SARAJEVO, July 2 (FENA) - The Embassy of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight organized a virtual celebration on the occasion of the 244th anniversary of the Independence Day of the United States.

The United States Declaration of Independence is the pronouncement adopted on July 4, 1776. The Declaration explained why the thirteen colonies at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain regarded themselves as thirteen independent sovereign states, no longer under British rule. With the Declaration, these new states took a collective first step toward forming the United States of America. This declaration is one of the first official documents in history to emphasize human rights.

“Today we celebrate not only the 244the anniversary of the birth of the United States of America but also the 25th anniversary of peace and our partnership in BiH,” said US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, stating that through the Covid-19 pandemic, the US has continued to stand as a steadfast partner of BiH.

During the party, successful cooperation between the US Embassy and individuals, as well as organizations from various sectors in BiH were presented. Thanks, first of all, to the financial assistance of the USA, many young people in BiH gained their first jobs or skills in building a professional career.

“These stories help us appreciate the progress achieved by citizens who have been committed to rebuilding the country. I hope they also encourage you, the citizens of this beautiful country, to continue to build a better future,” said Nelson.

He said that a brighter future for BiH is "a country well integrated into the transatlantic community" and that people of BiH have the United States as their partner on that path.
