MOSTAR, July 2 (FENA) - Tourism workers in Mostar protested on Thursday at the Old Bridge to send a message that the tourism branch is "on its knees" and are urging the authorities to open BiH's borders to EU citizens.
Owner of the shop in the Old Town, Soraja Ćatović, said that her shop is closed like the majority of the shops of her colleagues and neighbors.
“We are asking for our borders to be opened because we are practically going into bankruptcy. We are without any income. There are a lot of families here that live off tourism,” said Čatović.
She believes that the state should secure subsidies, which caterers and crafts have not yet received.
“We regularly receive bills for rent as well as for utilities. How are we supposed to pay them?” asked Čatović.
All caterers, hoteliers and craft shop owners in Herzegovina have the same problem and need solutions that must be implemented by the authorities.
Aware that the coronavirus pandemic has done its part and that every effort should be made to respect epidemiological measures to bring the virus's circulation under control, tourism workers underline they are only the first in the chain to be hit by the crisis.
They also pointed out that if the state does not stand by them, they will be forced to close their businesses and take to the streets.
