SARAJEVO, June 26 (FENA) - Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Johann Sattler delivered four ventilators today to the Sarajevo University Clinical Center (KCUS).
This is part of the ongoing EU assistance for immediate medical needs in the country that has been purchased in line with EU public procurement standards, EU Delegation to BiH announced.
“Cooperation and solidarity in these difficult times are essential, and for this reason the EU has secured €7 million for the health sector in BiH. The Sarajevo Clinical Centre has already received various medical equipment including highly sophisticated anaesthesia machines, ventilators, personal protection equipment, tests and control tests. EU remains the most loyal partner of BiH and our help will continue,” Ambassador Sattler stressed.
The EU is providing medical assistance to the health sector in BiH to help adequately treat patients suffering from COVID-19 or any other serious health condition.
The equipment was received by Professor Dr Sebija Izetbegović on behalf of the Sarajevo University Clinical Centre, who expressed appreciation for this donation.
“We thank the EU and Ambassador Sattler for today’s donation and support in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergency work regime and the circumstances in which we currently find ourselves require additional protection in working with patients, as well as therapeutic and diagnostic equipment. Therefore, we will use today’s donation for the treatment of patients who need this type of care. Sarajevo University Clinical Centre, as the largest health institution in BiH, looks after patients from the entire FBiH and part of the RS. We currently have the necessary diagnostic, therapeutic and protective equipment, but given that there is an increase of patients we will certainly need additional equipment in the coming period," stated Izetbegović.
The EU’s support to BiH’s COVID-19 response also includes €73.5 million in grants to save jobs as well as EUR 250 million in Macro-Financial Assistance.
