Journalists Association - Pressure on journalists who uncover criminal actions

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 4 (FENA) - The Association of BiH Journalists stated today that the pressure continues on journalists responsible for revealing a series of scandals during the state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The journalist of Fokus.ba web portal, Semira Degirmendžić, who was the one who uncovered the affair with the procurement of ventilators, is once again under attack.

Namely, a video emerged on social media accusing my colleague Degirmendžić that she construed the utmost lies, alleging that what she uncovered were not scandals at all but a case of "commissioned journalism," it is stated in the statement.

The Association adds that "in the distorted system of values that we witness every day, pointing a finger at illegal actions during the greatest crisis faced by the country is presented as something that is false and commissioned, and that it is, in fact, desirable to defend the perpetrators of such criminal acts."

The Association of Journalists of Bosnia and Herzegovina says in a statement that it expects the law enforcement agencies to react urgently and inform the public about the names of those responsible for the latest pressure on journalists.
