FENA Press release

MOSTAR, June 1 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union of BiH and Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Dragan Čović held a video call today with Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS) for Western Europe, Western Balkans and Turkey Angelina Eichhorst.

The main topic of the conversation was elections in the City of Mostar, which imply a broader consensus and necessary changes in the parliamentary procedure in order to organize elections for the City Council, the Press Service of HDZ BiH announced.

Čović emphasized that the City Board of HDZ Mostar had made large concessions to the Bosniak side and that an agreement is needed in order to create conditions for the election of the City Council of the City of Mostar.

"Croats must be represented by legitimate representatives, as provided by the Constitution," said Čović.

During the meeting, officials discussed the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with special reference to the epidemiological and socio-economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, emphasizing mutual satisfaction with the European Union's assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina to overcome the covid-19 crisis.

Talking about the situation in the country, the officials also commented on the current political situation, emphasizing that all issues must be based on a joint dialogue and agreement, and respect for the constituent peoples and all the inhabitants of BiH.

Officials also discussed European integration, stressing that meeting the 14 key points of the European Commission's Opinion as soon as possible is the key to further progress towards achieving Bosnia and Herzegovina's European goals. The European path, officials said, is the most important foreign policy commitment to achieving prosperity, development and peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region.
