SDP: Session of HoP of FBiH Parliament must be held urgently

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - Taking into account the new circumstances, the SDP caucus in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH requested an emergency session to analyze the consequences of the decision of the Court of BiH on the future functioning of the executive power in FBiH.

“The decision of the Court of BiH explicitly prohibits meeting with certain persons under Article 126 of the CPC of BiH, in a way that prohibits them from meeting and contacting in any way with witnesses of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH regarding the initiated criminal proceeding in connection to the procurement of ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is well-known that the witnesses in this case are Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the FBiH Government Jelka Milićević, Director of the FBiH Public Health Institute Davor Pehar, former Chief of Staff of PM Fadil Novalić, Hasan Ganibegović, the FBiH Government Secretary Edita Kalajdžić, and employees of the FBiH Civil Protection Service,” underlined the SDP.

Everything we could see in the media, they add, points to the complexity of the moment in which it is almost impossible to predict how the government will function, with the measures banning meetings and communication with witnesses being respected.

“It is clear that the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament is facing a very complex question about how Prime Minister Novalić would lead the Government, with all these new circumstances at hand.

An additional aggravating circumstance for the continued disposition of the Prime Minister's powers in terms of disposing of public funds stems from the fact that the Court imposed prohibitive measures on suspects, which means that it accepted the basis of suspicion for the crimes they have been charged with.

This request can also be considered our public appeal to those who won the majority in the 2018 general elections to finally appoint the new FBiH Government, which we have been waiting for the past 19 months,” stressed the SDP BiH.
