SARAJEVO, May 18 (FENA) - The handover of assistance provided for Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Republic of Poland in the form of 50.000 protective surgical masks and a thousand liters of disinfectant took place today at the Sarajevo International Airport.
Polish Ambassador to BiH Jaroslav Lindenberg explained that the assistance was provided after the initiative of Polish President Andrzej Duda and was handed over to the military contingent within EUFOR, and it will be delivered to the Ministry of Security, which coordinates and distributes medical assistance.
As the Ambassador pointed out, this is the first part of the assistance, because 100.000 surgical masks and 10.000 liters of disinfectant should be delivered by truck to BiH next week.
“This assistance was provided by the Government of Poland and will be provided for all six countries of the Western Balkans, and each country will receive the same amount of assistance,” Lindenberg added, emphasizing that this assistance is an expression of their European solidarity in the fight against the pandemic.
He stressed that this assistance is the result of traditionally good friendly relations between the two countries, and Poland is interested in the countries of the Western Balkans, recalling that the Western Balkans Summit was organized in Poland last year as part of the Berlin Process.
Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fahrudin Radončić, said that the Council of Ministers of BiH had passed a Decision on seeking international assistance in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).
“The President of Poland and friendly country Poland reacted to this BiH request and handed over a donation today, but even more important is the message we received from the EU Member State and the entire EU that BiH is a country they care about even in the most difficult moments,” Redončić emphasized.
The Minister of Security expressed appreciation to both the President and the citizens of Poland for securing this valuable donation.
