SARAJEVO, May 12 (FENA) - In the last 24 hours, in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 706 samples were tested for coronavirus, and one of them was positive, a male person who returned from Finland.

Davor Pehar, a member of the FBiH Civil Protection Staff and Director of the FBiH Public Health Institute, said today that this information indicates that the measures implemented at the border, including isolation and restricted movement,  confirm their effectiveness.

He noted that 24,015 samples have been tested so far, and the presence of a new coronavirus has been confirmed in 994 people. The highest number of infected people was in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, 261 and the Zenica-Doboj Canton, were there were 238 confirmed cases.

"Yesterday and today there have been no new positive cases in the ZDC, which means that the hotspots in Maglaj and Žepče have been placed under the control of the competent health authorities," Pehar believes.

One death was recorded in Herzegovina, a zero patient from Livno who was hospitalized for a long time, bringing the total to 36 confirmed deaths in the Federation associated with Covid-19.

Pehar emphasizes that this epidemiological situation has shown that the adopted measures give results with the cooperation of citizens, but that does not mean that such a good epidemiological situation can lead to an increase in relaxing measures.

Speaking about the possible lifting of the state of natural or other disasters in the Federation of BiH, Pehar said that all events in the Republika Srpska, the region and Europe are being monitored and their positive experiences are used, but the decision in the Federation of BiH will be made independently with the assessment of the epidemiological situation.

He noted that the opening of gyms and swimming pools comes in the third phase of easing of the measures, and it is expected that these decisions could be discussed at the end of May.
