FENA Press release

MOSTAR, April 24 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), Nevenko Herceg, held a meeting via video link today with Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec, and Head of the OSCE Office in Mostar, Alexander Chuplygin.

They discussed current situation in the HNC, in particular the activities the Government is undertaking to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"Despite the complexity of the Canton, we have been able to stop the rapid spread of coronavirus with extremely responsible behavior of our fellow citizens. The measures we take to slow the spread of the infection are relieving our hospital health system and, by this time, it is successfully responding to the challenges in all segments,” Herceg said during the meeting.

The officials also discussed education, i.e. the teaching process that was interrupted due to the pandemic, which, according to Herceg, was successfully established in a short time through the online system in all educational institutions in the Herzegovina Neretva Canton.

"There are still minor issues that need to be addressed, such as lack of technical aids, lack of computer knowledge, lack of internet connections in schools or students, and difficulties for parents who have more children, requiring more computers to keep their children working," Herceg said, noting that cooperation with the OSCE to help overcome these difficulties can be of great help.

Kavalec and Chuplygin commended the efforts of the Government, the Cantonal Civil Protection Crisis Staff, especially health facilities and all others involved in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

With regard to the educational process and the difficulties it faces in implementing it, due to the lack of technical aids, Kavalec stated that OSCE is ready to help in cooperation with the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs to overcome these difficulties.

At the end of the meeting, they expressed mutual readiness to continue and improve the cooperation between the Government of the HNC and the OSCE Office in Mostar, the Government of the HNC said in a statement.
