BH Journalists Association condemns attack on editorial board of Faktor.ba

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 15 (FENA) - The Board of Directors of the BH Journalists Association and the Free Media Help Line have strongly condemned the intrusion into the editorial office of Faktor.ba and threats against journalists and editors of that portal for publishing a text on arson and shooting in Sarajevo settlement Vraca.

The Board of Directors of the BH Journalists Association and the Free Media Help Line emphasize that attacks and pressures on journalists who do their jobs professionally are unacceptable in a democratic society and represent a serious attack on the freedom of expression and security of journalists.

They also appeal to parliamentarians in both BiH entities, the Brčko District and the state level to adopt as soon as possible amendments to criminal laws that would tighten criminal policy when it comes to attacks on journalists.

According to portal Faktor.ba, two women entered the premises of the portal on April 14 and, with direct threats and curses addressed to the editorial staff, demanded that the text be removed. Then the man who was the subject of the article that the portal wrote about called the newsroom on the phone, demanding that the text be removed and threatening to come to the premises of the portal with his lawyer. The person has been previously known to police authorities and was convicted of various offenses, it is said in a statement.
