SARAJEVO, March 15 (FENA) - The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, immediately after learning of the occurrence of coronavirus in the country, has formed a Crisis Staff for the territory of the Federation of BiH, and all measures have been taken, financial and other necessary means made available to protect public health, with all human and material resources made available for citizens' protection, said the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fadil Novalić, in his address to citizens today.

"However, it is clear to us that the effects of the spread of coronavirus will not only have a negative impact on human health but will also have negative effects on the economy. Also, it is clear to us that this is a global problem," the Prime Minister added.

Therefore, Novalić has convened an expanded session for Monday, 16 March, to which he invited all ten cantonal prime ministers and leaders of the Employers' Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Red Cross of the Federation of BiH, as well as all relevant FBiH institutions' representatives.

"What I can say with certainty at the moment is that the payment of pensions will not be endangered in any way, as well as veterans', disability benefits and all other benefits paid from the FBiH budget," said Novalić.

He also issued an order to all inspection services to tighten controls and to sanction anyone wishing to profit in this situation and the Minister of Trade has prepared the Decision on direct price control measures to be adopted by the Government tomorrow.

"The decision, among other things, provides for a ban on the rise of prices for essential food items. We are also ready to make available the FBiH commodity reserves if necessary. What is encouraging for now is the information I have, which is that there will be no disruption in the supply of basic food items," said the Prime Minister.

At tomorrow's session, the government will also consider proposed measures to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy, which will focus on preserving and improving the liquidity of the economy and measures of fiscal stimulus.

"They are mostly focused on preserving jobs and unimpeded supply of the necessary goods and services to the population," added Novalić.

The cantonal PMs and employers will be looking for ways to help working parents who have children under the age of ten who are home these days because there are no classes and kindergartens are closed as well, he said. These are children who cannot be looked after because parents have to be at their jobs.

"I hereby call on all citizens to have confidence in the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Trust in our health system, Crisis Staff, Civil Protection Service, the police, inspectors and all those who work day and night for the benefit of all citizens and whose help we will need in the period ahead. We should be grateful to them for this, and I especially thank them for that,” he said.

Novalić also said that he is in regular contact with representatives of the Council of Ministers Zoran Tegeltija, Fahrudin Radončić, Ankica Gudeljević, and RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković, with whom he is acting in coordination in the interest of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"It is of great importance to have close coordination within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. None of us is spared from the danger of this virus. Please minimize your movement, act conscientiously and follow the instructions of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Crisis Staff," underlined the Federation of BiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić in his address today.
