SARAJEVO, March 10 (FENA) - A modern phono-laboratory installed for the teaching of linguistics, including the Arabic language and literature, has been officially opened at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo (UNSA) today.

The project of equipping the classroom with a phono-laboratory at that higher education institution worth KM 120,000 was funded by the International Center for Arabic Language in Riyadh.

Ambassador of the Saudi Arabia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hani Abdullah M. Mominah said at the launch ceremony that the state-of-the-art phono-laboratory provides many multimedia opportunities and online conversations between teachers and students, and that this is the beginning of good cooperation and support for the University of Sarajevo.

“This is a symbolic gift of the Government and King of Saudi Arabia, Selman bin Abdulaziz to the people of BiH because we are bound by strong friendly ties. Therefore, we will continue to support the people of BiH, regardless of their nation and religion,” said the Ambassador.

Although a number of BiH students are already studying in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mominah believes that it is precisely the projects implemented at BiH colleges that will contribute to improving student exchange.

He recalled that three years ago, the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation of BiH and the Kingdom was initialed, which also includes scientific-research projects, projects of economic cooperation and culture, but it is necessary for the BiH Parliamentary Assembly to verify the Agreement.

The UNSA Rector Rifat Škijelj confirmed that student exchange and cooperation at the level of academic activities is necessary, and that universities are open and universal institutions, which is why there should be no barrier imposed by the state.

He announced that a public call for the construction of the University Library would be announced soon, with a grant of USD 17 million to be provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which, he said, would be one of the most beautiful libraries in the Balkans.

Director of the 'King Fahd' Cultural Center in Sarajevo, Muhammad Alu Sheikh, expressed hope that the students of foreign languages - Arabic, Persian and Turkish - would have much better conditions for their studying of language.

“The classroom has been completely renovated, and the state-of-the-art software installed in the phono lab will hopefully make it easier for students to learn the language,” said Alu Sheikh.

The faculty's openness to innovative technologies, according to the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Muhamed Dželilović, is what will help the state and society, and the first step is language.

Fikret Mehović, a spokesman for the King Fahd Cultural Center spokesman, says that the modern phono-laboratory offers listening, model imitation, reading exercises, doubles and group conversations, simultaneous and consecutive translation, recording of answers, quizzes, AP (R) exams and the library work.
