Uebber presents specifics of the new German law on immigration of professionals

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 3 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina Margret Uebber has addressed the BiH public via video message regarding the entry into force of the new German Law on immigration of expert professionals, presenting several novelties and the basic features of this law.

Ambassador Uebber recalled that on March 1, 2020, a new German law on immigration entered into force. The Law on immigration of expert professionals extends the existing provisions on immigration to Germany.

“This law specifically establishes the basis for the orderly and sustainable immigration of professionals in their field as workers into Germany. It will apply in all areas of expertise. Experts in the so-called MINT professions, these are professions in the field of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology, but there are numerous opportunities for the trades and crafts as well,” explained Ambassador Uebber.

She noted that this new law applies to nationals of all countries around the world, not limited to a specific regional area or group of countries. It is intended for skilled and qualified workers. These are persons with a university degree or with professional qualification.

“We are talking about vocational qualification when an appropriate occupation in Germany requires a vocational training lasting at least two years. Therefore, anyone with a university degree or professional qualification, recognized by the official German service and able to prove that he or she has an employer guarantee for a job, can apply for a work visa in Germany at the Embassy. Therefore, firstly you need recognition of the qualification, then the visa,” Ambassador Uebber pointed out.

She added that this also means that you will still need a visa for employment in Germany.

“The German Embassy is responsible for admission of visa application. In the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is the German Embassy in Sarajevo.

Those persons not covered by the Law on immigration of expert professionals may still apply for a visa under the rules for the Western Balkan countries.

For the time being, these rules will remain in force until the end of 2020. In addition, the Federal Government will make its decision this year. I cannot clarify all the details of the new law in this brief overview of course,” said Ambassador Uebber, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in BiH stated in a press release.
