SARAJEVO, February 28 (FENA) - The dairy industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina has had a record export value of 106.6 million KM in 2019, which is up by 17.9 million KM or 20 percent compared to the previous year, stated the Foreign Trade Chamber said of BiH (FTC) today.

According to the analysis of the FTC BiH and the Sweden / USAID FARMA II project, quantitatively, we have a surplus of almost 6,855 tons, but still in terms of net worth, we are still in significant deficit of 73 million KM.

“The reason for this is the unfavorable trade exchange structure, since we mostly export milk and sour cream (59 percent of exports, or 63 million KM), while we import primarily cheese (45 percent of imports, or 82 million KM).

There was a positive trend in the export structure, where the share of yoghurt products increased and the share of UHT milk decreased,” said Sweden / USAID FARMA II Project Deputy Head Feđa Begović.

With an export growth of 118 percent, the Serbian market is now the first in terms of value of exports, amounting to 38 million KM.

Secretary of the Food Industry Association of the FTC BiH Tijana Muhamedagić said that the markets of Montenegro with 35 million KM, North Macedonia with 17 million KM and Croatia with 13 million KM are still crucial. Due to the imposed customs tariffs, export to the Kosovo market  stopped altogether.
