Minister Trivić: We do not support discrimination

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, February 21 (FENA) - Republika Srpska Minister of Education and Culture Natalija Trivić warned today that the Ministry does not support any form of racial, religious or national discrimination on any grounds.

"We do not allow that especially when it comes to children," Trivić told reporters in Banja Luka.

She said she will also request the information from the local community and the school principal in Srebrenica regarding information that a ninth-grade student at Srebrenica First Elementary School, initials F.S., wearing a hijab was verbally assaulted yesterday when she was returning home from school.

According to her mother, few Serb students surrounded her daughter, provoked her because she was wearing a hijab and they did not let her go. They were also teasing her requesting to remove her headscarf.

Minister Trivić announced a meeting with the Mayor and President of the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly and parents' representatives on Tuesday (February 25) to discuss the educational process.

She emphasized that classes at school in this local community are held today without any problems but she urged everyone to respect the right to religious upbringing.

The RS Minister called for Srebrenica to respect the right to religious, national and all other differences, since these are fundamental democratic rights and freedoms.
