SARAJEVO, February 17 (FENA) - The Finance and Budget Committee of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly endorsed the Bill amending the Law on Financing of the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposed by the BiH Council of Ministers.

Prior to voting on the proposed law, the Committee adopted several amendments, proposed by MPs Edita Đapo and Adil Osmanović.

As stated in the explanation of the proposed law, the aim of passing amendments to this law is to establish a budget inspectorate within the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.

The most important role of the budget inspectorate, in accordance with the provisions of the proposed law, is its competence to act on suspicions of fraud and to fight corruption.

Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Vjekoslav Bevanda previously told FENA that the proposed law establishes a budget inspection as a sector in the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, and that this "should prevent various errors and ambiguities in financial operations and spending from the budget".

He explained that no new institution or new body is being formed, but in this way the Ministry of Finance and Treasury establishes a mechanism for consistent application of the law within its jurisdiction.

Committee members from the entity of Republika Srpska did not attend the session, and Committee Chairman Predrag Kožul initially said they had a tight quorum, and that the colleagues from RS have canceled their arrival due to today's RS National Assembly session.
