BIHAĆ, January 27 (FENA) - Interior Minister of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Nermin Kljajić, at this year's first meeting of the Task Force on Migration Crisis Coordination and Monitoring, confirmed that nearly 1,800 migrants have arrived in this canton in 2020.

“We monitor the influx of migrants and refugees in the canton every day and we can say that in January about 1,800 of them have arrived. This number is close to the number last year, so we cannot say that the arrival of illegal migrants to this part of BiH has decreased. Currently, there are about 3,600 people in temporary reception centers here, while a large number of migrants are staying in abandoned and private facilities,” said Minister Kljajić.

It was also pointed out that the preparation of the reception center in Blažuj near Sarajevo is expected to be completed in order to further unburden the Una-Sana Canton.

“We expect the completion of this second preparatory phase in Blažuj, in order to relocate migrants from temporary centers in Bihać, Cazin and Velika Kladuša. It is in our interest to provide these people with decent living conditions, that is, to continue to control the safety and health aspect of this situation in the cities and municipalities of the USC,” Kljajić added.

USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić noted that the objective of this year's first meeting of the Task Force was to begin preparations for the arrival of a new migrant wave.

“We have to be as ready as possible because we assume what awaits us. That is why we will also seek an urgent meeting at the BiH Ministry of Security to determine the direction of our next steps. We also analyzed certain safety and health reports, and found that the complete process of closing down the Vučjak camp had been successfully completed,” Prime Minister Ružnić said.

Special attention at today's meeting focused on the process of protecting vulnerable categories, that is, migrant families and minors, as well as on the involvement of the cantonal and city Red Cross organizations.
