SARAJEVO, December 9 (FENA) - Since 2014, the Center for Civil Society Promotion (CPCD) has been implementing a learning activity for children and young people entitled Hour of Code.

This year, the action takes place from December 9 to December 15, and today the first Hour of Code has been organized for the students of "Aleksa Šantić" Elementary School at the CPDC premises.

The Hour of Code is organized in more than 100 municipalities and with the cooperation of Microsoft BH, American Corners, Burch International University, BH Telecom, osnovna.ba portal, FBiH Youth Council and hundreds of schools from all over BiH.

According to event coordinator Amel Petrović, the CPCD is the main advocate of the global activity in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"This year, we are also organizing a school-to-school competition that will independently organize hundreds of coding lessons, involve more than 20,000 students and send us reports on it. After the information on the activities has been published, the expert committee will evaluate the performance according to pre-determined criteria, and the additional points will be awarded to the school through the publication of pictures on the social networks entitled Hour of Code BiH and the likes they receive. The three most successful schools will bring 15 to 20 students each to Sarajevo for the final competition on January 25 next year," said Petrović.

He emphasized that the Hour of Code is a learning activity that develops analytical thinking and logical problem-solving in an innovative, engaging and child-friendly way, which is necessary for the proper growth and development of children and their preparation for life.

The activity is a contribution to the acquisition of the functional knowledge, skills, and competencies required to develop problem-solving skills, and the need for this type of education is demonstrated by the results of PISA testing.
