Over 1.4 million tourists in BiH in first ten months of this year

SARAJEVO, December 9 (FENA) - In the first ten months (January - October) of this year, 1,448,086 tourists visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a 12 percent increase in comparison to the same period last year.

During that period, tourists had 2,987,903 nights, which was an increase of 10.6 percent compared to the same 10-month period last year, the BiH Agency for Statistics said in a press release.

The number of overnight stays of domestic tourists increased by 8.1 percent and foreign tourists by 11.5 percent. The share of domestic tourists in the total number of overnight stays is 27 percent, while 73 percent were made by foreign tourists.

In the structure of overnight stays of foreign tourists, the greatest number of overnight stays was made by tourists from Croatia (11.5 percent), Serbia (8 percent), Saudi Arabia (7.1 percent), China (5.2 percent), Slovenia and Germany (5 percent each), Italy (4.9 percent), Turkey (4.7 percent), United Arab Emirates (4.1 percent) and Poland (4 percent), while tourists from other countries accounted for 40.3 percent of overnight stays.

As regards the length of stay of foreign tourists in BiH in the first ten months of this year, Malta had the highest with an average of 4.7 nights, followed by Kuwait with 3.4 nights, and then Ireland with 3.2 nights and Iceland with 3.1 nights.

By type of accommodation, the highest number of overnight stays was in hotel and similar accommodation with a share of 92.2 percent.
