SARAJEVO, December 1 (FENA) - According to statistics, in the third quarter of this year, a decline in the realization of construction works of BiH companies abroad is evident.
Economic analyst in the field of construction Dženana Hodžić believes that such indicators are mainly a consequence of the displacement of skilled labor, that is, a shortage of personnel in the construction industry.
“This is a problem that our companies have been facing for a long time. Although investment in EU countries is on the rise, as is the demand for skilled labor, contracting prices have increased. BiH companies in the construction sector are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the needs when it comes to human resources,” Hodžić said in a statement for FENA.
She said that such situation was further complicated by the fact that from August this year Germany made it possible for our workers to obtain work visas directly in Germany through employment with German companies.
“Previously, workers who worked in Germany for two years through BiH companies had to take a break for two years. From August 1 this year municipalities in Germany can, according to an assessment of the employment needs of foreign nationals, immediately employ them, without any break. Considering that a significant part of work of our companies related to this market, we can say that this certainly had a reflection on the value of realization and contracted work of BiH construction companies abroad,” added Hodžić.
According to the latest data from the BiH Agency for Statistics, the value of new contracts from construction companies from BiH abroad in the third quarter of this year decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, the value of completed works was down by 4.6 percent. In the first nine months of this year (January-September 2019), the value of construction works performed by BiH companies abroad was down by 5.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
