SARAJEVO, October 30 (FENA) - The BiH raspberry production sector has seen a decline of about 30 percent due to low purchase prices, but they say there is hope that the remaining producers will manage to survive with the interventions of the institutions, it was said today at the Regional Berry Fruit Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia.
Director of the Agricultural Projects Coordination Unit of the FBiH Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, Halil Omanović, said that the purchase price of raspberries fell significantly last year due to heavy imports from Chile into the EU, and that farmers began to destroy their crops.
“We expect that small producers will not destroy their plantations, and those larger ones who hire labor will or have already done so,” said Omanović.
He added that raspberries are returning to the market this year and already the purchase price has increased to 2.5 KM per kilo, compared to the price of less than 1 KM in 2018.
The meeting is attended by representatives of the competent authorities of the region, experts in the field of agronomy, representatives of the purchasers, farmers' associations, raspberry producers from all three countries, and representatives of international organizations active in the field of agriculture in the region.
