Crnadak and Kavalec discuss amendments to the Election Law and media freedoms

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 3 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Crnadak today received Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec, Head of Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) to BiH.

Crnadak congratulated Ambassador Kavalec on her appointment to the post of the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH and wished her success in her future work.

He thanked the OSCE for the long-standing support to BiH and for a significant number of projects that the OSCE has implemented in our country.

The two discussed the current political situation in BiH, European integration, reform processes, with emphasis on amendments to the Election Law and media freedoms.

Minister Crnadak stressed that it is necessary to amend the Election Law as soon as possible in the part of the electoral process highlighted by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in the report on the BiH General Elections in 2018, in order to prevent irregularities observed during the General Elections last year and in order to respect the electoral will of the citizens.

He warned that during the election process, it must not happen again in BiH that voters are exposed to intimidation, blackmail and threats, and that the public service broadcasters are in the function of politicians or political parties, as stated in the ODIHR report.

The OSCE Mission Chief Kavalec stressed during the meeting that there are many programs and activities that the OSCE continues to implement in BiH, such as the rule of law, human rights, education, security and cooperation, assisting our country in the reform processes.

The interlocutors agreed that failure to form a government is an obstacle to any reforms that BiH needs to implement on its path to European integration.
