FENA Press release

PRAGUE / SARAJEVO, October 3 (FENA) - Director of the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund Fuad Čibukčić and Director of the Czech Development Agency (CzDA) Pavel Frelich signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in Prague.

By signing the Memorandum with representatives of the Czech Development Agency, we have opened a new direction in the way the Fund works when it comes to stimulating, developing and implementing projects, with a particular focus on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as opportunities for the Fund to participate in international programs.

Namely, unlike the previous way of financing projects with already known procedures, we are starting a new phase where, in cooperation with international partners, we will work to identify needs and priority activities of mutual interest, identify and coordinate potential projects, and contribute in cooperation with other partners in their successful realization.

“We now expect more concrete steps and enhancing of cooperation between the two institutions, which, I believe, will significantly contribute to promoting possibility of investing the Czech Government's funds in environmental and energy efficiency projects in BiH, in partnership with the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund,” said Čibukčić on the occasion of signing the document.

The Memorandum regulates the framework for the development of cooperation between the Fund and the CZDA, as well as the conditions for joint activities in terms of solving environmental problems and co-financing projects in the FBiH.

In line with the guidelines of the EU Stabilization and Association Agreement, BiH's tasks in the process of implementing the Acquis Communautaire on the environment include developing cooperation in the field of environmental protection, as well as strengthening administrative capacities and procedures to ensure strategic planning for environmental issues, coordination between relevant actors at all levels of government and alignment of BiH law with the EU acquis.

Based on the Memorandum, the Fund and CzDA express their obligation to work closely to develop and strengthen cooperation in the areas of conservation, sustainable use, protection and improvement of environmental conditions and use of renewable energy sources, the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund stated.
