SARAJEVO, October 2 (FENA) - The BiH Foreign Trade and Economic Affairs Minister Mirko Šarović is attending the First Annual Meeting on Energy Priorities and Leadership in the Eastern Mediterranean in Athens, dedicated to reliability of energy supply, gas corridors and the future of oil and gas supply.
At today's ministerial roundtable on energy trends in Southeast Europe, especially in the gas sector, Minister Šarović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is lagging in adopting the decisions on engaging in strategic gas projects that are already being implemented in the Western Balkans, such as the so-called Turkish Stream and the Ionian-Adriatic Gas Pipeline.
“In making strategic decisions, Bosnia and Herzegovina should be guided by its own need to have a more diversified gas supply, which will bring reliability in supply as well as greater competitiveness in terms of gas prices and benefits for end consumers,” Minister Šarović emphasized, adding that "if we think about it this way, we will not have to, as we have done so far, wage internal disputes in the country about which pipeline is more of a priority."
BiH does not have its own production of natural gas and is completely dependent on imports currently being made through only one supply route, said Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.
