ZENICA, September 26 (FENA) - New Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina Manuela Naessl met with Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumović today to discuss projects the EBRD is implementing or plans to implement in that city.

The meeting was also attended by former EBRD Director Ian Brown, who is leaving for a new post in Villnus, Lithuania.

“We talked about the project of the Zenica Cantonal Hospital (KBZ), which we want to launch as soon as possible. We also discussed the completion of the Green Cities Action Plan, which aims to improve the living standards of Zenica's citizens. We hope that it will be adopted by the end of the year and that after that, we will continue to prepare new, concrete projects,” said Director Naessl.

As for the reconstruction of the KBZ, it is necessary that the already signed contract gets ratified by the BiH Parliament, and until that happens, they are working on the preparation of the tender documentation.

Naessl announced that the EBRD is also ready to participate in the reconstruction of the city's hot water heating network, which has deteriorated and its replacement would produce significant savings.

"Over 100 million KM is needed for the reconstruction of the city’s heating network," Kasumović said, adding that the boilers for the new gas heating plant are co-owned by the City of Zenica, ArcelorMittal and the Finnish Fund, hoping that all necessary permits will be issued soon for its construction.

Kasumović said that the implementation of the project, which should be completed in the second half of next year, is once again being blocked.

The construction of a cable car from the city to the mountain peak in Smetovi was also discussed with the Head of the EBRD Office in BiH because, as he said, the used cable cars from Italy and Austria that were offered to them were not adequate for Zenica, so they gave up on this option.
